Want to send music, wallpapers, custom ring tones, graphics, videos etc. to you cell phone? PC-to-Phone cable is an obvious answer but it doesn’t come in the package for all the cell phone models, also requires software to be installed on the PC. Bluetooth is also widely used. But if you are on the move you don’t have access to the PC-to-Phone cable and Bluetooth isn’t available on all the computers.

Web-enabled computer to cell file transfer services come in handy. These 3 services are FREE to use & work with most of the phone models.

Beam It Up Scotty

Send the download link of your desired file to the cell phone in three simple steps

Upload the desired file to Beam It Up Scotty

Compress the files if required

Enter your Cell Number and send

Using Beam It Up Scotty for the first time will require your email id for activation, also the maximum size of a single file cannot be more than 100 Mb. It sends the download link to the cell phone pretty fast, everytime I used it, i got the message within 10 second. All uploaded files are available on Beam It Up Scotty servers for 30 days minimum.

Myxer

Another free service offering computer to cell phone transfers, just upload the desired file, fill in your cell phone number and hit send. Myxer also has a collection of ringtones, videos, games, wallpapers available for download. Has a fast turnaround time sends the message with download link in seconds.

Mobilatory

Simply select the Send to Phone option, choose the file you need to send and hit Send to Phone button, then select the Free SMS option and select your mobile operator, enter your mobile number. Click “Send me the link” button, that’s it you should receive a message on your cell with the download link to the file. They also have a large collection of ringtones, graphics etc. plus they offer software for creating your own ringtones and wallpapers.
It’s rare though but remembers all those Spam emails from China, Russia etc? How to read them? Copy and paste in translation engine is a common way out but it’s a bit complicated and time consuming for people belonging to global teams who frequently communicate in a multi-language environment.

Now Gmail users don’t have to worry about the translations, Google has enabled language translation in Gmail, you can translate emails written in foreign language to your native readable language. To enable the translation option, go to the Labs tab under Settings and enable the “Message Translation” option.

Any foreign language emails will now automatically have an option to translate the message into the language of your current settings. Also the translation is inline that is you don’t have to leave the current message. You can also translate and print the translated version using the Translate and Print option.

You can slow it down by changing the 5 in setInterval(’A()’,5); to a bigger number like 50 something.

Works with FireFox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer

It can freeze on slower computers, also webpages have very large number of images may freeze.

For e.g. we are trying to find out the email id of CEO of a company. First we need the name of the CEO. Most of the times names of senior employees can easily be found in the About Us>Management Team page of the company’s website, sometimes also on the Contact Us page. If name is not found on the company’s website then go to google.com and put in “CEO Company’s name” in the search box.

If that doesn’t work can put in “CEO company’s name linkedin” in the Google search box you should get the linkedin profiles having name, title and where the person is currently working. Check for the required company and find the CEO’s name.

Now the tough part, how to find the email id of the CEO? Go back to google.com and type in the CEO name “@companywebsite.com” in the search box for eg John Smith “@something.com”. Do Ctrl+F and search for @companywebsite.com within the search results and look for relevant email id of the CEO.

If the above step doesn’t get the CEO’s email id then look at the other email ids for the same company and try to understand the structure of the email id for eg it can be like firstname.lastname@companywebsite.com or firtsnameinitial.lastname@companywebsite.com etc. Once you have the email id structure CEO’s email id can be easily derived.

Another way to find the structure of the email id is to check the whois records for that domain using this site, you can also download a small tool here for checking whois records.

PRnewswire.com, Businesswire.com, MarketWatch.com and Yahoo Finance can also be used to find the email id structures by searching for the company’s press releases and locating the contacts at the bottom of the news release.

The process described above should work in majority of cases (CEO’s at Fortune 1000 or Fortune 500 companies can be found using this trick). But sometimes you may have to play around with the structure of email ids by testing different versions before you get the right one.

It is still an experimental add-on but I am yet to encounter any problems. It saves a lot of hours of clicking all those links one by one; specially for those who do internet research work.

All you need to do is install the add-on and restart FireFox, select the links you want to open/download, right click and select either Selection Open or Selection Download, it will open/start downloading the selected links. Works with latest FireFox version. It is Smart. Simple and Extremely useful.
